Nathan Simpson

Trombone, Tuba, Euphonium

Mr. Simpson is a Virginia native and was born and raised in Gloucester County, VA. Upon graduation he attended Old Dominion University earning a bachelor’s degree in Music Education and a performance certificate in Trombone. He continued his studies at Michigan State University earning a master’s degree in performance on trombone. While there he studied with Curtis Olson and had the privilege to work with Eugene Corporan who was then director of bands at MSU. Mr. Simpson spent the next 15 years as the director of bands at Page Middle School in Gloucester Va; while there his bands consistently received superior and excellent ratings at concert, jazz, and solo/ensemble festivals. Mr. Simpson then spent the next 7 years as one of the two band directors at Farmwell Station Middle in Loudoun County, and finished his 31 year career as a Band Director at Sterling Middle School also in Loudoun County VA where he retired in June of 2018.

His professional affiliations include membership in the Music Educators National Conference, the Virginia Band and Orchestra Directors Association, the International Trombone Association, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Music Fraternity. He continues to stay active as a trombonist playing with the Fairfax Wind Symphony, Silver Five Brass Quintet, Fairfax Swing Jazz Ensemble, and freelancing in the Northern Va. area.

He currently resides in Leesburg with his wife Suzanne and their three children are Jocelyn (29), Curtis (21), and Brianna (20).
